Kimberley Cook is an avid gardener who, as most gardeners, is searching to create "the perfect garden" from which she can find inspiration for her paintings. Using the soil as her canvas, she is constantly looking to place the perfect colours, and textures together to create a living tapestry, which is constantly changing and evolving. With the help of the deer and rabbits that nibble and carve their place in the natural surroundings, her goal is to try and create an overgrown English garden. Because Alberta can only grow limited plant material, it is a challenge to plant and combine,  through trial and error, a flower garden which has a tangled and yet beautifully overgrown effect. Kimberley knows that she will never reach the perfection she tries for, but she will continue to play in the garden, painting the rich soil with life.

My Perfect Garden

By Lisa L. Flora

On my first morning breath, I envision my perfect garden

Laden with the most magical of perennials

I’ve been there but only moments ago in my dreams

There with the humming birds dancing along side the bumble bees

The sun embracing me filling the depths of my soul

Golden, Honey, Sweet

The sky unfolding like a tranquil blue ocean

The waves leaping for eternity

Into forever, there they are, my poignant ruby poppies and my

Majestically crowned Iris

I dream, I dreamt, I dream

And

Miraculously the drops fall off my paintbrush ever so precisely and

Precociously make their way across an empty canvas

I pause, and unexpectedly there it is --- my “Perfect Garden”
